Wheel nuts specification

Ford have kept things simple when it comes to their wheel nuts as all models of Mondeo use the same size. However that is not to say that there can be differences in what is available to you to buy. Here we will explain the different styles of wheel nuts and which will suit your requirements best.

Original Ford alloy wheels

By far the most common fitment will be for the standard O.E alloy wheels. Ford Mondeo wheel nuts specs for these are:

  • 19mm Hex head
  • M12 x 1.5 thread
  • 60 degree taper with a 28mm diameter
  • 30mm over all height

The product below is the ideal replacement part for the original Ford Mondeo alloy wheels. There are options to choose how many wheel nuts you need and a matching set of locking wheel nuts is available from this product page too.

A major plus you will find with this replacement part is that it has a solid 19mm hex head, where as the O.E Ford wheel nuts come with a thin metal cap. Often these caps cause issues as they are easily damaged or even swell making removal and refitting difficult.

Broken Ford wheel nuts

This is an example of a damaged O.E Ford wheel nut. In this example the cap has come completely away from the head of the nut. This leaves underneath a non standard hex size which is too large for a 17mm or even 18mm socket and too small for a 19mm. This means that is becomes very difficult to remove the nuts should you need to.

Aftermarket alloy wheels

You may want to modify the look of your Ford Mondeo and aftermarket alloy wheels are a popular and simple way of doing this. However it is worth noting that the original Ford wheel nuts or our Ford replacement nuts above are unlikey to fit non standard alloys. Most aftermarket styles of wheels will have a smaller nut hole and the 28mm diameter seat of the original wheel nuts will not fit.

  • 19mm Hex
  • M12 x1.5 thread
  • 23mm diameter 60 degree taper seat
  • 34mm over all height to allow for the possibility of more stud thread

The wheel nuts above are ideally suited to PCD specific aftermarket alloys. These are wheels with 5 nut holes. However if you have a multi-fitment wheel then you may need to get another style of wheel nut called a tuner nut.

Multi-Fitment alloy wheels and tuner nuts

If you have aftermarket alloy wheels with more than 5 nut holes then you have what is called multi-fitment. This style of wheel uses a special wheel nut often referred to as a Tuner nut. This is because to fit the extra nut holes around the centre of the wheel the holes need to be narrower that standard. So a normal Hex nut will not fit.
